Trump didn't change politics. What happened was that progressives had a moment, and somehow (laughably) convinced themselves that they were entitled to not only get their way in everything, but decided it was entirely reasonable to force hundreds of millions to bend to their will and live by their rules. Worse, they started throwing absolutely unhinged, childish temper tantrums every single time they didn't get their way.
Rather than the exemplary examples of inclusiveness and joy they envisioned themselves to be, they demonstrated the behavior of small minded entitled authoritarian bigots. Reminded me of A childhood monopoly game when one player sweeps evereverything off the table when they can't handle losing the game. Young intellectuals turned into elderly blue haired small minded scolds, while well adjusted adults sat back and watched..
What you're describing reminds me a lot more of the Tea Party's reaction to Obama's entire presidency. I'm not saying that what you're describing isn't accurate in the sense that Americans are struggling to recognize that compromise isn't supposed to feel good. What I am saying, however, is that it's comical to pin that behavior on one side of the aisle completely. This is an American problem, and once we all agree on that we can work on bettering ourselves. The GOP I remember is the one that focused on self-betterment and self-realization. Let's inculcate those values once more and stop tossing food from our side of the cafeteria.
What I recall of Obama's term, people were upset at how much he bent the law, gifted GM to the UAW, screwed over more than ten thousand at Delphi, and delivered pallet loads of untraceable cash to the global leader in state sponsored terrorism. The elected leader of the free world bowing to tyrant kings set off quite a few of course, as did his self absorbed arrogance.
And people are upset with Trump because of how much he bent the law, screwed over every American consumer by pulling out of TPP, and took jobs from thousands of federal employees, as well as completely tarnishing the reputations of every civil serviceman and woman of this country. The elected leader of the free world bowing his head to Russia and said that he'll allow him to wipe Ukraine off the map if elected in November certainly pissed off a lot of people, as well. What I'm getting at is that we could run around in circles all day firing off shots back and forth. I'm arguing that we can't convince each other of a damn thing unless we can agree that the problem is American, not Democrat or Republican. Then maybe we'll find a way to make both you and me happy.
“ The elected leader of the free world bowing his head to Russia and said that he'll allow him to wipe Ukraine off the map if elected in November certainly pissed off a lot of people, as well”
The only elected leader of the free world right now is Biden. Are you suggesting Biden said this?
If you are talking about Trump, are you even aware that it is the Harris-Biden administration in charge right now?
Your implicit claim that Trump has said he will allow Putin to wipe Ukraine off the map is just completely false.
But if your point is you can keep making false or idiotic claims all day, then on that score, I’d have to agree…
“The real tragedy is that more Americans have come to believe that honesty and integrity don’t matter. Trump has convinced many Americans that being a good guy in politics is not only unnecessary, but undesirable.”
Given that you don’t give fully equal time to the reality that the mainstream media and government officials don’t believe that honesty and integrity matter, and have repeatedly acted on same in the last 15 years, I call Bullshit on your whole piece.
Let’s see:
- Lois Lerner
- Hillary destroying her email server
- Russia collusion
- FBI leaking and using known false Steele dossier to get a warrant
- Biden crime family earning millions from foreign powers
- Hunter Biden laptop story spiked because “signs of Russian disinformation”
- FBI leaning on Facebook/Twitter to censor

The idea that Trump is the one who has devalued integrity and honesty in our politics is absurd.
While I ain’t a core Trump supporter (I’m in camp Never Democrats for national office…), part of why they are attracted to him is that in fact he is the one most standing up and fighting back against the corruption of “the swamp”.
Was trust inspired when B. Clinton ‘s NAFTA sent manufacturing jobs to the far east , or when his PWRORA cut off assistance for women and children in the cruel States ?Cynicism has multiple sources .
“ Watching the clips from Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, what struck me more than anything else is how utterly unrecognizable the Republican Party has become under Trump. A party that once stressed the importance of honesty and integrity…”
Putting aside the certain bias of the clips you watched, and even fully putting aside the stuff about “takes Trump literally but not seriously” which is clearly at work, I want to *agree* with a big portion of your implicit and explicit point re: honesty and integrity.
Namely, that Trump is indeed much closed to the Democrat Party in terms of valuing honesty and integrity less than the Republican Party traditionally has. I think that point is somewhat fair.
You completely fail to mention your implicit acknowledgment of the truth that Dems - both party insiders and elites and at least in the last 9 years the voter base as well - simply don’t value honesty and integrity. At least when it comes to winning elections.
Russia collusion, spiking the Hunter Biden laptop story, claiming now to be for fracking, etc.
And it infuriates the left that Trump uses many if not most of their favorite tactics. While they have no problem using those tactics against the GOP, they can’t stand it when the tactics are used against them.
So do you prefer the woman that has imported millions of illegal aliens into the country, then given them free food, housing, and medical care, while Americans are told to go pound sand? Have you considered that on your next visit to the Emergency Room, you might have to sit next to an illegal aliens with tuberculosis? Trump will deport the illegals,

“ took jobs from thousands of federal employees”
?!?!?!?
You are suggesting that those employees OWN their jobs?!?
That the President isn’t in fact more accountable to the American people and American taxpayers than he is to federal employees?!?
🙄
“screwed over every American consumer by pulling out of TPP,”
Hillary “pulled out of TPP”, too. But selective memory is a wonderful thing, huh?
